Softronic ECU Flash Porsche Boxster S/Cayman S 987 3.4L

Softronic is very popular amongst the Porsche Boxster and Cayman community. Their ability to do custom tuning on the 987 chassis has led them to continually out perform the competition. Like the other normally aspirated 911's, Softronic focuses on improving the overall power curve of the car. Improving driveability, throttle response, torque, and midrange power. Softronic is able to gain 20 horsepower to the crank and 17ft/lbs of torque.

Stock Power – 295HP and 251ft/lbs
Tuned Power – 315HP and 268ft/lbs

Softronic flashes the 987 Cayman and Boxster cars through the OBDII port of the car. With their Flasher Client software, they are reading a full 1mb of the file to completely tune the ECU. Other companies claim to be able to do this, but are only read 128kb and making global changes. The ECU flash will alter your fuel and timing maps to give you a very linear increase over stock. For those worried about check engine lights, there are none! These cars come with 4 catalytic converters and those running an exhaust system usually eliminate the secondary ones before the muffler. If you are running high flow cat headers or a complete straight pipe exhaust systems, Softronic raises the O2 levels which will remove the possibility of having a CEL from this type of exhaust. The overall improvement of drivability makes the 987 Boxster and Cayman S even more fun then it was originally. Another great feature Softronic can add to your car is the Sport Mode. For those that do not have this as an option, Softronic can turn Sport Mode on permanently so you have 100% of the electronic throttle. If you have Sport Mode, you can choose to have this be left as its original function or turned on all the time.

Since warranty is always a concern, Softronic also provides you with your original file. With this original file you can flash your car back to stock at any point. If you go to the dealer, there will be nothing visible through the Porsche PIWIS system. Softronic can program your vehicle no matter what country you are from or what octane you use. We have different maps for those running 91 octane or 93 octane and higher.

What are the benefits/functions of going with Softronic compared to the competition?

  • Softronic does not require the removal of your ECU from the car. There is no down time at all.
  • Your car can be flashed at your convenience from the comfort of your own garage.
  • Softronic reflashing is done via a Client Cable that is connected to the OBDII port. The customer simply plugs the cable into the car and reads the file with a laptop per the instructions with the cable. Once the file is downloaded, it is emailed to the Softronic secure server where the file is tuned and then emailed back to the client. The client simply uploads the file and they are done. Total process is about 1 hour.
  • Reflashing is done according to the vehicles octane level of pump gas and modifications are taken into account (Intake, Headers, Exhaust) to enhance power gains.

    "Very easy to actually flash the car, my only complaint would be that the software doesn\'t really let you know if your file has been uploaded to the server properly so you kind of have to hope for the best, but that\'s pretty minor. Flashing took only a couple minutes and made a huge difference in power and smoothness across the power band."

    "I installed the Softronic ECU flash without race plenum/throtlle body kit (next spring) in my ‘06 Cayman S and am very happy with the result. The first thing I noticed was how much better it pulls in the mid-range it also has better top end pull too. After driving it a few day on familiar roads I couldn’t help but notice better throttle response throughout the range–it seems more lively now. The Saturday after installation I was at Miller Motorsports Park at a PCA DE and really appreciated the extra pull, sharper response and that extra 500 rpm on the long straight. There was another CS in my run group but I wasn’t able to do a side-by-side acceleration as he backed off to let me by. I was hoping to get on the straight behind him and see if I could gain on it and maybe even pass him. I highly recommend Softronic. The company is responsive and the tune flash took me around thirty minutes including getting ready on the car and computer–the flash itself was maybe ten minutes. Great product. BW"

    "I installed the Softronic software and plenum in my ‘06 Cayman S. I also have an aftermarket cat back exhaust. The difference in power is very noticeable. If you want to make your car a little faster, these are very worthwhile improvements. As an instructor for many car clubs I often get to drive students’ cars. Whenever I drive a stock Cayman S I am surprised by how much less powerful they feel. My car is noticeably faster. I have been extremely happy with all the dealings I have had with Softronic."

    "I have used the softronics software with the plenum and race throttle body and it transformed my Cayman from a very polite brisk car to a fast aggressive machine. I have always felt that the first gen Cayman S had power left on the table. I never believed this to be the case with the non-S Cayman. Look at the hp/cubic inches ration of Porsche engines across the board. The Cayman was in the 80s while everything else was in the 90-100 plus range. Driving the stock car was not much fun above 5500rpm as it seemed to lose power. After the softronic upgrades and a Borla exhaust I suddenly had a fast car. Uncorked, it was what I first expected of it. Scott does some fantastic programming. And free upgrades, as new upgrades are available made the whole experience perfect. All in all, will look to Softronics first wheneve I need serious tuning done."
