2010 997.2 Turbo ECU Flash Tested – 50awhp Gain!

Tuesday, June 1, 2010 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

We just finished testing the Softronic ECU Flash on a 2010 Porsche 997.2 Turbo.  The test car was a PDK running on 91octane fuel with an ambient temperature of about 95F outside.   From the factory, the car comes with 500 horsepower to the crank and our baseline done 4 days prior was at 435awhp.  Typically the Mustang AWD Dyno has about a 20-25% drivetrain loss when tested.  20% of 500 is 400whp and this car definitely exceeded that.  Is it possible the 500HP rating is “underated”???  Whatever the case, once we flashed the 997.2 Turbo through the OBDII port, the car gained 50 all wheel horsepower and 54ft/lbs of torque bringing the car to 486awhp and 501 ft/lbs of torque.  This test was also done with a stock exhaust system which is usually extremely restrictive.  Stock exhausts generally produce alot of backpressure giving torque spikes.  An aftermarket exhaust would gain another 20whp approximately.

What you can tell from this dyno is that the performance from the Softronic ECU flash gives a huge improvement in the daily driving rpm range.  Peak performance comes on at about 3300rpm and holds strong to 4700rpm where the power then stays consistant to redline.  Check out the pictures and video below!

Porsche 996 Turbo Launch Control Released by Softronic

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

Softronic is proud to offer their custom Launch Control software for the Porsche 996 Turbo vehicles.  This Launch Control will work on any K16, K24 X50 or GT2, as well as custom turbo applications.  The Launch Control is exclusively for Softronic customers as an add on to our ECU Flashing.  This is a great modification for those drag racing, and can add substantial improvements to your 1/4 mile times.

So what is Launch Control?

Typically, launch control is used in race cars to help take off fast and efficiently at the start of a race.  You might see this commonly used in Rally cars at the beginning of each stage.  Many  Launch Control is controlled by the computers ECU to a set RPM point and then puts load on the engine.  This causes the car to build boost pressure at a stand still to reduce the lag of a normal launch.  The 996 Turbo Launch Control builds 0.2Bar or 3psi of boost.  This feature eliminates the possibility of dropping the clutch at to high of an rpm or over revving the car at launch.  Because there is such a small threshold of action to smoothly deliver acceleration from a stand still on high horsepower cars, launch control has been created.

How do I get it?

To get launch control on your Porsche 996 Turbo, you need to have already purchased the Softronic ECU flash or you are going to order the Softronic ECU flash from our Order Page Here.  For existing Softronic customers, it is really easy to do.  Simply use the Paypal Button below to order and enter the last 8 of your VIN number.  You will receive an updated file within 48 hours of purchase during business hours Mon to Fri 8:30am – 5:00pm EST.  If you have any questions about the Launch Control, please Contact Us.

Does ECU Flash Tuning Affect Warranty and Flash Counters

Friday, April 16, 2010 posted by SoftronicTuning.com
If you put the original file back in the car, Porsche cannot detect anything as it is the ORIGINAL.  Softronic provides you with the TRUE ORIGINAL file.  Others that have a switching unit give you a stock type file where you are switching between fuel maps on a already altered file.  The only flash counter that exists is when file updates are done by the factory PIWIS tool or Porsche related tool.  Other “tuners” that do not know how to devert around unlike Softronic will show a flash counter change.
For example we had a recent customer with a 997TT that had flashed his car with us/Softronic.  He had a turbo problem with the mechanical arm that was warrantied.  Porsche reflashed his car from the original firmware of B735 (flash count 1) to a B742 (flash count 2).  The customer went to reinstall his tuned file, but because they changed  his firmware, the tuned file did not work and caused his car to not start.  So he had it brought back to the dealer to be reflashed to firmware B742 (flash count 3).  He then reread out the car and received a new file for his car which was loaded.  At the end of the day, only the Porsche dealer alterations show as flash counts totally 3.
Thanks!

We hope this clarifies for customers concerned about warranty!

K16/16G 996 Turbo Tiptronic Tuned by Softronic to 600HP

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

The Car – 2003 996TT K16 Tiptronic
The Mods -
K16/16G Turbo Upgrade
5.0 Bar FPR
Denso Iridium Spark Plugs
K&N Filter
Agency Power Exhaust System
Agency Power High Flow Racing Intercoolers
Agency Power Racing Diverter Valves
Agency Power Silicone F-Hose Kit
Agency Power Race Plenum and Throttle Body
Agency Power High Flow 3in Y-Pipe
Softronic Tuning

The car put down 493awhp and 559ft/lbs on our Mustang AWD Dyno using 1.2bar and 91 octane. With a 25% drivetrain loss from the Mustang, that is about 600crank HP. You can see what a big difference in torque the TB/Plenum and YPipe does as the HP and TQ is usually comparable with stock parts.  Anyways this car with a EBC running 1.4bar and some 109oct should be a MONSTER!

How to Complete the ECU Flash by Clearing Codes of the DFI Porsche Cars

Thursday, April 1, 2010 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

When flashing your DFI Porsche Carrera, Cayman, Boxster, or Cayenne with Softronic through the OBDII port, you will need to clear codes on the car before running it.  The flashing process is slightly different then the older Carrera and Turbo cars.  This is why we include the Basic Durametric cable which allows you to clear codes with the Durametric Software.  Once you load your new tuned file that has been emailed to you from Softronic, follow these basic steps.  Failing to do this will result in your car being operable or put your car in a limp mode.
