Porsche 997.2 Turbo 2010+ ECU Flash Tuning

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

Porsche 997.2 Turbo – $2795

The 2007-2009 Porsche 997 Turbo has been a huge success for Softronic.  As one of the first companies to be able to flash through the OBDII port, the performance gain and convenience of the Softronic flash has proven itself.  Now with the new 2010 DFI 997.2 Turbo out, more power can be pulled from that car too.  The 6 cylinder, 3.8L engine offers much more to gain then what is in the 500HP engine of the PDK or 6speed cars.  Softronic is one of the ONLY companies able to flash DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) cars through the OBDII port.  In fact for this ECU Flash we provide you FREE of charge the Durametric Enthusiast Cable with this flash.  All DFI cars require you to clear codes once you flash the car.  You can see the HOW TO here.  And of course like all Softronic ECU Flashes, we provide you with the True Original File from your car as well as your new Tuned file so you don’t have to worry about warranty.  Not sure about the warranty affects?  Read Here.   So what will the ECU flash do for me… Gain 50 wheel horsepower and 54ft/lbs of torque!

Stock Crank Power – 500HP
Mustang AWD Dyno Test – 435hp/447ft/lbs

Tuned Crank Power – 575HP
Mustang AWD Dyno Test – 486hp/501ft/lbs

997_2-aftersoftronic2
  • 8.39sec 60-130mph time
  • 0-60mph time of 3.08sec
  • 1/4mile time of 11.29sec at 127mph
  • Top Speed of 196mph in only 1.3miles
Run 2 Top Speed 196 MPH - 60 to 130.xlsx

The test car was a PDK running on 91octane fuel with an ambient temperature of about 95F outside.   From the factory, the car comes with 500 horsepower to the crank and our baseline done 4 days prior was at 435awhp.  Typically the Mustang AWD Dyno has about a 20-25% drivetrain loss when tested.  20% of 500 is 400whp and this car definitely exceeded that.  Once we flashed the 997.2 Turbo through the OBDII port, the car gained 50 all wheel horsepower and 54ft/lbs of torque bringing the car to 486awhp and 501 ft/lbs of torque.  This test was also done with a stock exhaust system which is usually extremely restrictive.  Stock exhausts generally produce alot of backpressure giving torque spikes.  An aftermarket exhaust would gain another 20whp approximately.  What you can tell from this dyno is that the performance from the Softronic ECU flash gives a huge improvement in the daily driving rpm range.  Peak performance comes on at about 3300rpm and holds strong to 4700rpm where the power then stays consistant to redline.

Softronic has been able to flash the DFI cars since the 2009 Carrera came out.  Now with testing completed and maps developed, the 997.2 Turbo can be taken to a whole new level.  The complexity of the maps and tuning of the DFI Turbo is much different then the earlier 997 Turbo.  With the stock car making about .7bar of boost,  the new flashed file holds a solid 1.0bar of boost.  Having made changes to both the fueling and timing tables, we are able to get a safe and reliable increase of power to the car.  With their Flasher Client software, Softronic is reading a full 1mb of the file to completely tune the ECU. Other companies claim to be able to do this, but are only read 128kb and making global changes. The ECU flash retains your factory SPORT mode function, but also increases your boost under normal use. For those worried about check engine lights, there are none! For those running a high flow cat exhaust system, Softronic raises the O2 levels which will remove the possibility of having a CEL from this type of exhaust. Once the car is flashed, the turbos will come on much quicker and the car will pull harder to the 500rpm increase of the redline. The overall improvement of drivability makes the 997.2 Turbo even more fun then it was originally. Since warranty is always a concern, Softronic also provides you with your original file. With this original file you can flash your car back to stock at any point. If you go to the dealer, there will be nothing visible through the Porsche PIWIS system. Softronic can program your vehicle no matter what country you are from or what octane you use. We have different maps for those running 91 octane or 93 octane and higher.

Upgraded Your Porsche 997 VTG Turbos and Not Making Boost?

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

Once you upgrade your 997TT VTG Turbochargers and flash the car from us at SoftronicTuning.com, you need to calibrate or initialize the wastegate actuators.  This can ONLY be done using a Porsche PIWIS tool which all Porsche dealers have.  The ECU program file is working, but the car needs to communicate with the new turbo actuators.  To do this process, simply follow these instructions with your shop:

1. Warm up the car.
2. Use the PIWIS tester and perform a full search of the cars control units faults and erase all the faults . This is under “Special Functions” under the 997.
3. Next go into “DME”.
4. Next select “System Check”.
5. Next select “Adaption of boost pressure actuator”
6. Make sure all the pre requisites are good and perform the function by pressing F8.

Porsche 996TT K16/16G 5Bar FPR Upgrade 575HP Tune – $1995

On a budget and don’t want to go overboard on modifications? The K16/16G is an excellent turbo upgrade that can be done with the stock Porsche 996 Turbo K16 turbochargers. Fast spool up is maintained while the modified exhaust side of the turbo helps it breathe substantially more giving you gains across the mid to top RPM’s. With the Softronic ECU tune incorporating the 5bar FPR, your car will be putting out 575hp to the crank. Modifications should be consulted with a installer and the assistance of Softronic to maximize the potential of your vehicle. For those running catless race pipes, Softronic raises the O2 limiters which trick the computer from throwing a CEL. This map is available for a 91 octane or 93 octane pump gas car as well.

Softronic flashes all the 996 Turbo cars via the OBDII port with the provided flasher cable. With their Flasher Client software, they are reading a full 1mb of the file to completely tune the ECU. Other companies claim to be able to do this, but are only read 128kb and making global changes. Softronic will also provided you with your original file. With this original file you can flash your car back to stock at any point. This map includes 2 revisions in the price. If revisions are necessary, you must provide the dyno sheet showing HP, TQ, Boost, and AFR as well as a Durametric datalog. The Durametric cable is required for the revisions to be considered.

Scan10537aAs tested on this 2002 996TT 6speed, this car made 453awhp and 503ft/lbs of torque on a Mustang AWD dyno. With a 25% drivetrain loss, that is a 566hp to the crank. The car was equipped with a high flow exhaust system, boost hoses, cold air intake, diverter valves, 5bar FPR, and running 1.2bar on 109octane race gas.

Porsche 996TT K24/18G 5Bar FPR Upgrade 625HP Tune – $1995

Much like our other K24/18G upgrade tune, this ECU file keeps the stock injectors and boost solenoid and runs the much simpler 5bar fuel pressure regular. By having a fixed boost pressure of 1.2-1.3 bar, additional fuel is not needed. This turbo setup then produces the same low end turbo spool of the K24 but with a huge increase in the mid to top end RPM range from the 18G exhaust side upgrade. Inconjunction with corresponding mods, this ECU tune will take your vehicle up to 625HP to the crank.

Scan10273aAs tested on this 2002 996TT 6speed, this car made 501awhp and 549ft/lbs of torque on a Mustang AWD dyno. With a 25% drivetrain loss, that is a 625hp to the crank. The car was equipped with a high flow exhaust system, boost hoses, cold air intake, diverter valves, boost controller, 5bar FPR, and running 1.3bar on 109octane race gas.

Porsche 996TT K24/18G 60lb Injectors 650HP Tune

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 posted by SoftronicTuning.com

Porsche 996TT K24/18G 60lb Inj Upgrade 650HP Tune – $1995

The most popular turbo upgrade for the 996 Turbo is taking the OEM K24 turbos found on the X50 or GT2 and having them modified with an 18G exhaust side. This turbo setup then produces the same low end turbo spool of the K24 but with a huge increase in the mid to top end RPM range. This map is designed to run using 60lb injectors and an electronic boost controller. Inconjunction with corresponding mods, this ECU tune will take your vehicle up to 650HP to the crank. Modifications should be consulted with a installer and the assistance of Softronic to maximize the potential of your vehicle. The tuned file is designed to eliminate the factory boost controller and raise the factory boost cut from 1.3bar to 1.6bar. For those running catless race pipes, Softronic raises the O2 limiters which trick the computer from throwing a CEL. This map is available for a 91 octane or 93 octane pump gas car as well.

Scan10240aAs tested on a 2002 996TT Tiptronic, this car made 529awhp and 532ft/lbs of torque on a Mustang AWD dyno. With a 25% drivetrain loss, that is a 661hp to the crank. The car was equipped with a high flow exhaust system, boost hoses, cold air intake, diverter valves, boost controller, 60lb injectors, and running 1.4bar on 109octane race gas.
